The Latest on the 2016 coronaviruses pandemic: • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday that more than 5 million people have been infected in the United States since March 15, but the true number of deaths is likely to be far higher because coronaviral infections are so rare.
The CDC said it expects the number of coronavillosis deaths to exceed the 10,000 mark this week.
It has not said how many of those deaths were due to the virus itself.
The Centers say the death toll is expected to rise again as coronavides continue to spread throughout the country.
The number of new coronavovirus cases and deaths was the highest in nearly a year.
The virus has killed more than 1.1 million people in the U.S., more than half of whom were younger than 40, according to the CDC.
In New York City, coronavivirus cases have increased by 50% since March 14, according the agency.
CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden says that the nation has a “very good track record” of keeping its citizens safe.
He says the nation is in the “best shape” from the coronovirus.
A new study out of Harvard University finds that the virus does not pose a risk to the elderly.
The study found that older adults and those who are immunocompromised for other reasons have a much lower risk of developing the coronivirus than the general population.
