SANTA CLARA, Calif.

— The man who played the trumpet in a Mexican street band for nearly 30 years has died.

Diaz Soto was 79.

He died of heart failure Friday at his home in Santa Clara, Calif., a local television station reported.

The band played in more than 300 cities across Mexico.

They also appeared in movies, television shows and music videos, according to the Associated Press.

They have sold more than 1.5 million albums and are known for their catchy, colorful music.

Soto was a regular in Santa Barbara for decades.

He had a short-lived television show in Mexico and also had a career in Hollywood.
